CanYouSeeWhereThisIsGoing?

So, in some ways I was a lazy kid. Maybe more of a procrastinator. OK, I still am. I'll do something about that one of these days. Anyway, I didn't always put things away when I was done with them. Like comics. I would take handfuls of the old comics from the chest in the basement, and neglect to return them, letting them pile up in my room, under my bed. They really weren't mine, they were my family's. But I was borrowing in the good faith that I would return them. Well, can you see where this is going? Maybe. Maybe not.

To jump to it and get it over with, there was a flood in the basement, and the water soaked through the walls of the chest and fused all the comics into a solid pulpy mess. All the comics were ruined and gone...all that is except that is for the ones I had procrastinated in returning--30 to 40 of them. From that moment on, they became mine. My love and interest in them had saved them, and they were now in my care and keeping. Not all of them were in that great of shape to begin with, and over the years sometimes only covers are left, but I've held on to most of them through the decades. Here's a Walt Kelly Pogo story from one of them.

About Me

My photo
Thomas Haller Buchanan
My name is Thom Buchanan. I'm an artist and photographer. People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years. I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
