Visualized Dream

Spirited Away, the Miyazaki film, is  a visualized dream. The visuals are stunning and the music is haunting (and vice versa). With many films it's hard for me to watch more than once every few years, but this is my daughter's favorite film and she and I have watched it together many times, each time a lyrical experience. I truly feel some deep response to many of the sequences, as if this is a shared dream.

These are a few of the architectural production paintings for the film, beautifully rendered by Studio Ghibli, and powerfully evocative of hidden worlds.

About Me

My photo
Thomas Haller Buchanan
My name is Thom Buchanan. I'm an artist and photographer. People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years. I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
