In 1970 I gave up comics for a couple of years, but not before getting this Wrightson story from House of Mystery #186. Wrightson put in a lot of beautiful effort, ala the panel above.
I may be biased. In my home country, when I was growing up, most comics were published in black and white (probably to cut costs), even if they were in color originally. I therefore developed a fondness for monochrome artwork.
I love Wrightson, but I also think his work is most effective in black and white.
ReplyDeleteBlack and white is great, but I think that a dark palette of color used on some of his work really adds atmosphere and mood.
