I almost used the word, evocative, to describe the illustration: Great poems and evocative illustration, were my first thoughts. So, I'm glad you used it!
Yes, the word evocative has been used so much in a sexual context, that it sometimes seems inappropriate. But in a classical, magical, context it is is evoking a response that transcends the mundane.
