This ad from 1929 touts the magic of radio in the warmth and coziness of a little home with the radio fairy anointing her blessings. I'd like to think there's a computer fairy waving her wand at me every night in the warmth and coziness of my little studio.
Hey E.G., that radio cabinet is a nice piece of vintage furniture! And doesn't it look all warm and cozy?
This is great... look at that speaker!

I love old radio cabinets! Especially the tall arched sort that come to a point.
ReplyDeleteI've thought about building a retro 20s-30s sort of cabinet for modern electronics quite a bit, but I haven't done one yet.
I keep files, physical and electronic, for furniture pics like your image morgue, Thom.
I've got a lot of old radio and tv cabinets in it.
The problem I keep running into is that today, consumer electronics change so fast, my designs are obsolete before I can follow through.
A good piece of furniture can last hundreds of years, but today's shoddy electronics rarely survive much use.
If someone built electronics with robustness and durability in mind,I'd be set. But the modern use it and toss it mindset pushes out concerns over quality construction.
Nice! It does look peaceful.
