Of course you've seen this magnificent print by Barry Smith, and probably have it in your collection, but I'm posting it here, just 'cause I want to. Zoom in on the beautiful rendering detail.
Wow, I would have said this was 1910, then realized it was Windsor Smith. He did an Xmen issue, Lifedeath, that I still have, was amazed at the time by the quality of his work, luminous and beautiful. It's even more so here, thank you for posting this!
Windsor-Smith, Jeff Jones, Mike Kaluta—those 'Studio' guys were born out of their time, that of the early xxth century. But at least their work found a way to connect with that golden age.
