Game of Love

Chéri Hérouard had a long and prolific history with the early xxth century French magazine La Vie Parisienne, creating cover illustrations, many of which were ribald and/or risque. Here is a gorgeous print that was also one of those covers—with a Leyendecker feel to the composition, if not the execution.

    There is an echo of shapes in this piece, the wing of the hawk and the dress for a start

    Yes indeed. It's got a wonderful pattern of shapes jutting into the negative space .
