Distill the Essence

The old engravings are a great resource for students and professionals to examine and study composition, human anatomy, architectural details and fabric drapery folds. Usually engraved after paintings, these monochromatic works distill the essence of those studies.

I wish this style would come back in other media; imagine an entire film, made to looked like these engravings.

Film and illustrative imagery, elusive and illusory.

I just finished watching a DVD of Hugo, just moments before seeing your comment — a most inspiring film about pushing the limits of film.
