In 1970 I gave up comics for a couple of years, but not before getting this Wrightson story from House of Mystery #186. Wrightson put in a lot of beautiful effort, ala the panel above.
I may be biased. In my home country, when I was growing up, most comics were published in black and white (probably to cut costs), even if they were in color originally. I therefore developed a fondness for monochrome artwork.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

I love Wrightson, but I also think his work is most effective in black and white.
Black and white is great, but I think that a dark palette of color used on some of his work really adds atmosphere and mood.
