Yow, Ditko!

A cool Steve Ditko piece, from the cool Fantagraphics book: Strange and Stranger—The World of Steve Ditko. This artwork originally for  the cover for All Stars #1, 1965. Some people say Ditko lost the early Kubert influence in the early 1960s, but somehow I always still see it in most of his work. Here especially in the woman, but also here and there. Not a bad thing by any means.

Actually this widely reprinted piece was where I FIRST noticed a Kubert influence. Now I see it popping up throughout his career.

I agree.

I first consciously recognized the relationship after looking at some of Kubert's early work.

About Me

My Photo
Thomas Haller Buchanan
My name is Thom Buchanan. I'm an artist and photographer. People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years. I refer to myself as a pictorialist, as I don't limit myself in the process of how an image is made. Images are my life.
View my complete profile
I intend to share many of my pictorial treasures, some not terribly rare, but terribly meaningful to me. I like to zoom in on details along the way and share what has inspired me in my career as an artist. And I would like to examine the value of pictorial images, not in terms of money, but in degrees of imagination.

I refer to myself as a pictorialist, not just in my set of skills, but in my lifelong appreciation of the skills and talents of artists, illustrators, cartoonists, sculptors, photographers, typographers, and graphic designers. I'd like to share that appreciation with anyone who stumbles into my little world.

It's a good little world!
