Here's a big piece of candy, all sweet and chewy, by Harrison Cady.
Y'know, Cady—as a cartoonist and children's book illustrator—was a huge influence on the young Walt Kelly. Sometime I hope to show some specific parallels.

I'd like to see your examples! Any influence on Kelly is worth exploring.
One influence that comes to mind is Arthur Rackham, not so much in the Pogo strip, but in some of the "fairy tales" that Kelly wrote for the Pogo books -- especially the ones that featured human beings. If you look at them, and then look at (for instance), Rackham's line illustrations for Poe, you can see a strong resemblance.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

Yes! Let's see more Harrison Cady! His work is hard to find online.
Hi Thom,
I love the detail, and all the little characters, each with a unique expression, and the mix of more realistic with more fanciful creatures.

But for now, thank you for the wonderful scans!
