I still find this poignant as an adult - only if you look carefully at the last panel for the 'reveal' - and wondered if Mike ever did any others in this series? Any idea Thom?
Norman, I'm not aware of anything specific to a continuity of this. The intro panel certainly sets it up that way, but I know that Kaluta had some funny little misinformation like dating something as if it were the 1930s and such.
Yes, the reveal is very nice.
Michael, are you out there, any information on this selection?
Thomas, I've only seen two in this As Night Falls series by Kaluta...besides "Sally's Song" originally printed in Phase #1 1971(Did you add the blue tint?) there is also "Cheryl's Song" published in Infinity #3, 1971! It is also two pages but is done in pen & ink...I'm fairly sure that is all there are in this lovely series!
I'm also guilty as charged...I constantly remove word balloons, add tints, etc (For example take a look at the Weird Worlds covers I posted recently)...for the most part though I try to stay true to what I perceive as the artist's intention! I despise the way tasteless art editors at DC & Marvel mucked up so much beautiful art with word blocks and balloons! Your blue tint is indeed appropriate though I probably would have hit it with a sepia tone...I will for sure scan and post "Cheryl's Song" soon! Kaluta is one of my all time favorite artists...I have detailed files...
Mr. Door Tree, I actually started off with sepia tones and it was pleasant, but seemed inappropriate for the night-time dream theme. I experimented with several colors and finally chose to go with this, though my scan was a bit off on that first panel.
I've got lots of art edits in the works, to maximize what I believe the intent of the artists to be.
I intend to do an e-zine article on Kaluta, and perhaps I can sort of collaborate with you on that, as Kaluta has indicated that he will collaborate with me as well.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

Beautiful early work -- his style is unmistakable.

Hi Mr. Door Tree, yes I'm guilty of adding the blue tint. I just thought that it added a little atmosphere that the grey tone was lacking.
I have this horrible habit of acting as an art editor for the images in my life.
I don't think I have Infinity 3 in my collection any more (items just keep coming and going over the years). Perhaps you can post up 'Cheryl's Song'?

Thomas,
Say, I would be glad to contribute to a Kaluta project! I'll be in touch!
Sounds great! I'm ready for it!
