It's always a pleasure to see work by Johnny Gruelle, he of Raggedy Ann and Andy fame — wonderful fairy tale author and illustrator of the early 20th century, he had a nice range of style.

This is beautiful, Thom. You remind me with this post and others that he illustrated more than the Raggedy Ann and Andy stories. I'm going to try to find more. I love this one for the delicacy and for the affection shown between the girl and the deer.
