Faraway Places

Yes boys, even girls have dreams of adventure in faraway places . . .

Only it's religious adventure...those are the Three Wise Men, right? And it's the November issue. Maybe she's supposed to be reading the Good Book? I like that cat in the lower right corner.

I suppose you're right. But at least it's not just the Wise Men all by themselves like you usually see. A caravan with spears and stuff is pretty adventurous, prepared for bandits going after all that gold and myrrh.

Great find. Who is the illustrator?

Well, it appears that it's a Norman Rockwell, although I might have guessed E.M. Jackson.

Thomas,

This lovely cover is not by Rockwell...he never did a cover for The American Girl. I have no idea who did this great cover but it is a swipe of the Rockwell cover to the February 16, 1929 issue of The Saturday Evening Post!

Thank you Mr. Door Tree. I was of that opinion as well, but the one source I saw on the internet said Rockwell. And I know of the cover you speak, I believe I blogged that one a long time ago (the one with the chubby little fellow asleep in the chair?). I am still thinking it looks like an E.M.Jackson, though the blurry initials in the corner don't look like his. Who knows. Nice cover.
