When Barry Smith (as he was called in that simpler time) first appeared, his work was compared to something drawn by Kirby with his left hand; yet by the time that Smith began drawing Conan, his work was of high caliber, and it became just amazing.
He was a tough act to follow, and I simply never cared at all for the work of others at Marvel on Conan nor those who worked on Kull.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
