There. What do we have? Ah — Translations from the Chinese, by Arthur Waley. Let's see the date, hmm, I always have to think a little harder to figure Roman Numerals . . . ah! 1941 I believe. Only some 70 years ago.
Not a classic, per se, but nice, with nice full-bleed illustrations by . . . Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge. Again, not classic, but serviceable and appropriate to the times of 1941.
Take a look-see.
Just looking at these pictures brings with it a pleasant sense of serenity. The visual equivalent of listening to a nice slow Jim Reeves ballad. (Or insert your own relaxing musical choice.)
ReplyDeleteexactly . . . serenity and innocence, I hope.
ReplyDeleteB.
Damn well nice! Well, beautiful, actually.
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Thom, for posting things like that. I never heard or seen anything by this artist, but now I just love it. I'll try to get this book.
What would we do, what would we look at, without your blogs? You're doing a great cultural and visual job here.
Yves, Yves, Yves, how you do go on.
ReplyDeleteDO go on!
