The drawing above is from a Life Magazine. I can't tell you when or why because as a dorky kid I was saving images and not the words per se. The few words that surrounded my clipping frenzy make me think that it wasn't an article about Kelly, but rather an illustration for a concept of ecology, although they used Kelly's words "We have met the enemy and he is us". The drawing style and use of those critters and that ark seem to be of Kelly's 'Mars era', making it 1966 or 67. Many times, Kelly's take on eco-awareness was regarding overflowing garbage, and by inference (to use a later term): Afluenza. We all own too much stuff, we keep making it and we keep throwing it away. In our era and economy, recycling is a failing business, when it should be booming. If he were around, Kelly would still have a lot to say about this.
Sometimes Kelly would fly above all the world's concerns and take us along with him.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
