The alternate title to this painting is Clyties of the Mist, painted in 1912. That seems to be a mythological reference, but Clytie was one individual water-nymph that transformed into a flower. So, I'm not sure of the plurality of the subject.
But it was a salon painting and not illustrating a story. It's not a series, but he painted a number of other nymph subjects. I will post some of those as well.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

blimey, that's gorgeous. I'm assuming it's got something to do with The Ring of the Nibelung? if so, is it part of a series?
