For some reason I find 1989's cover the scariest, the notion that something is cutting its way out of the pumpkin out in the sleeping pumpkin field...

Great covers. William Joyce's George Shrinks (way before the TV show) was one of my son's favorite books when he was small. We own the miniature edition, and read it over and over!
