Just Say NO

I hate to mar the pictorial nature of this blog to post this, but I'm making a plea to all of you blogspot bloggers to turn off your lightbox feature. It's a pain in the @$$ and prevents all of us from totally enjoying your hard work and cool blogs. It's especially painful for Macs.

Go to 'settings' and then 'formatting', and half way down, just say "NO".

Thank you, and I'll look forward to seeing your blogs soon. This message will self-destruct after a while, cuz it just ain't pretty.

Thanks for pointing that out, turned mine off.

This was helpful. I hate that new feature, and I didn't actually realize that seeing it pop up everywhere meant it was doing it on mine too, much less that there was a way to stop the madness.
Thanks!

Yay, at least two blogs returned from the precipice of doom, the ring that rules them all hidden for now.

thank you! I had no idea why the change happened, and that I could change it back!

Make that three blogs. Thanks for pointing out how to get rid of it. ;-)

I turned mine off. I never realized what it did until you pointed it out. I hate this kind of surprise. I'll pass it on. Thanks Thom.

Done. I couldn't work out how to do this with the new interface, and had to switch back.

Thanks, Thomas. You have performed an invaluable service for us. I never realized I could turn off that nasty little feature. I hope more bloggers follow suit. Thanks again.

I found the lightbox annoying as well.
I'll be shutting it off as well. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks Thom, I hate it when programmers decide what's good for us.

Thank you all for showing that we're all in this together!

Personally liked the feature (not the way it was rolled out!) but bow to your superior visiual and Mac knowledge. As my stats show most visitors use Macs in some form it is now 'Off'. Thanks again for a great blog

Ooooh Thom!
Thank you very much!!
I've done it before posting this message. I hate this also.
May I take your "explaining image" to advise people I know please?
Or maybe you're letting it there some more time & I put a link to your blog on mine?
Anyway, you're just such a sweet heart to let us know!!
Friendly.

Either way, my dear. There have been so many nice responses to this public service that I am now loathe to take this message down. So link or share in any way you can.

Thank you, Thom! I didn't really realize it was doing that. I noticed one night, and then never went back to check. It is annoying. It's a feature they never should have added automatically without notifying users, giving us the choice. In other words- we should have been able to "opt in" to the feature; not be forced to "opt out."

Thanks Thomas! I got your note and am DELIGHTED to find a way to disable this lousy feature! Now you can return to my blog without annoyance. I encourage all bloggers to ix-nay this debilitating display option.

Thanks for posting this! I'm still using the "old" editor, the one that doesn't offer the lightbox option... but I will pay attention to this feature the (still unscheduled) day I will upgrade it!

Where is this feature? I don't know if this is part of the blog architecture or the browser.

Thomas Haller Buchanan said...

Roy, if you're blogging on blogger, then go its dashboard, then in the menu go to settings and then on that menu go to formatting, and then about half way down it asks about lightbox.

Now, mind that I'm still on the old blogger format, for as long as I can, so in the new format, it might be different, but hopefully pretty similar.
