Lyrical, Laughable, Lovable

Gulliver's Travels, the 1939 full-length feature cartoon, was Paramount's response to Disney's Snow White feature. It had some interesting animation techniques combining rotoscoping for Gulliver, and stretch and squash for the lilliputians (25,000 of 'em!).

It was just one of so many landmark movies to come out in 1939.

I have such vivid memories of watching this on TV as a kid, if not of the actual film itself. I remember my brother and I watching it with rapt attention at my grandparent's house. I remember fighting back tears at one point (didn't want my little brother see me crying else he'd tease me mercilessly. I suspect he felt the same way) I remember it as an absolutely wonderful movie.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! I watched it with my son many a time when he was little (and a few times since), and I love the animation. Like you said, 1939 was an excellent year for memorable and amazing movies!
