Where Was This Used?

This Wally Wood piece has always fascinated me, partly because I have no idea where it was used originally. I've had this printed piece for years, but there's nothing on the back—yet it's on nice paper stock, like it was part of an inexpensive portfolio set. My memory fails me as to where I got this. Anybody (BookSteve?) have any idea as to its original intent? Maybe an Avon page?

Thomas,

If memory serves me this is Wood's first of three illustrations he did for Planet Stories (the pulp) circa 1953!

I didn't know he did any for Planet Stories. I'd love to see the others. What a classic era for him.

Thomas,

I posted the other two over at Golden Age Comic Book Stories...some of my favorite illos by Wood!

Something tells me this is one of his Conan illustrations from the early fifties.

Say, are you THE Howard Chaykin? If you are, I've got some very nice art of yours I'd like to post.

I've seen this before in a fanzine, maybe even a Witzend. Not sure what it was for, though. What's up, Howard?

Hello Joe--

Y'know I've seen it reprinted before too in another place and I'm thinking it was Captain George's Comic World (a Whizzbang Publication). Anybody remember THAT tabloid pub?

Hey Joe, your stuff over on Grantbridge Street is super!
