Usual Lament

Time for my usual lament that newstand magazines used to be glorious, and now nothing but dreck. How can it be smart for publishers of today to have their covers look not only like clones of their competition, but like themselves over and over and over?

To say it again, oh how glorious newstands used to be.

I echo your lament, despite the fact that I have contributed to the problem in a small way. I have designed publication covers for the company I work for and I have tried to infuse them with a different kind of sensibility. Unfortunately the "Marketing People" (and that represents a very long rant) tend to choose the designs that represent more of the same.

I'm not asked to design covers anymore.

Glad you guys appreciate this. If we got a couple hundred million more people to think like us, maybe them marketing people might pay attention to the wants of the people, , , naaah.
