Warning! Comic Book Geek Reference:

From the golden age of illustration is this Harold Nelson 'editorial cartoon' of sorts looking all the world like he channeled a Mike Kaluta Conan the King cover from decades into the future. Can't you just see the Conan the King masthead looming behind this guy?

I kid, but,what's that from? Is it an allegory for world war 1? It says A.D. 1918 at the bottom.

E.G., WW I was my interpretation, which is why I called this an 'editorial cartoon', but I have no idea what the context was for this image. It was from a book on pen & ink, with no explanation.

is that Elric? the helmet makes me think it could be Elric.
