Manchurian Bride

From early in the history of photography comes this supremely lovely study of a Manchurian bride, by John Thomson. From 1868 to 1872, Thomson traveled as a professional photographer through China, documenting a world that fascinated him, and now us. If you get a chance to see an exhibition or catalogue of his work, by all means do so.
