Father Time

Father Time got a grip on me, stressing me with too many deadlines and too little time, absent-mindedly turning his hourglass over and over, faster and faster. Somewhere up on his infinite dusty shelves is a bottle with a little extra time that I sure could use. But he's too busy checking in on the young and the beautiful, bestowing them with Good Luck and Elixirs of Peace.

Edmund Dulac — Father Time —1906

I hadn't seen that one before. I love it.

That's a wonderful image. I love Dulac.

I'm under deadline at the moment as well. I started off well and the finish line is close. Now I just have to quell my insane urge to rush the job to the finish line.

Thank you for posting this. I love the "surprise" of the woman in the bottle, and the wonderful composition, color and detail.

I'm wondering if you know where this illustration appeared. I love it so and would love to know if there is a story it belongs with! Thanks :-)

I'm sorry that I don't know the original intent for this wonderful illustration. Where I got it was from an old old art magazine, with an article about Dulac.

Thanks for your kind reply - in all my searching i just can't find what it goes with. I'm afraid i'm going to "steal it a bit" as i'm going to incorporate it (with some changes of course to respect Mr. Dulac and not copy verbatum) into a tattoo :-)
