Old Albrecht did some pretty amazing animal portraits; one of a hare, and a beetle. This one isn't as realistic (had he ever seen one?), but it is still very cool!
i just saw this as i was combing through blogs linked to Mr.Door Tree's blog. love that scan! i once made a t-shirt of it for myself from a scan of a postcard i bought. should the opportunity arise once more, i'll have this one to work from. thanks!

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

It looks like maybe he'd seen a head, and the overall proportions aren't far off, but that body armor is pretty amazing.
Durer has lasting appeal, 500 years from now people will still enjoy this print!
