Just Imagine!

Mad science and medicine — ala an Art Deco film set. If only reality had followed course, hospitals could be so much more inspiring.

The scene of El Brendel's operation from Just Imagine (1930).

There are some nice visuals in that film. And it's worth noting that the spaceship used to travel to Mars in Just Imagine was later used for Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938), and that shots from JI were used for the '39 Buck Rogers serial.

But the story and acting for Just Imagine are just dreadful. The thing seems to have been conceived as a vehicle for the gags of El Brendel, but he doesn't have enough material nor strong enough material to carry the film.

Okay... no jet packs, no flying cars, no moon colonies, no Art Deco hospitals...

Man, this future sucks!
