Downton Abbey

The cover below looks like it's a scene right out of Downton Abbey, in the real world time of 1917.

Is anybody out there following Downton Abbey? We are.

Coles Phillips — Good Housekeeping — March, 1917

Look at all that negative space not crowded up with word blurbs!

Yes, we're following it and really enjoying it. However, not so crazy about the way they ended season 3.

I am too, and I love this tv show very much. But I've only watched the 3 first seasons, I think there is another one but I can't buy it at the moment (I'm in France, it's not available yet).

It's very good to learn english ! (I just had some hard times with scottish accent).

Oh, Larry, us too! I know it's only a tv show, but the season 3 ending made us miserable.

Hélène, I don't think season 4 has started yet, which I'm sort of dreading due to the ending of season 3.

If only I could learn French the way you're learning English :)

Quite right, S4 is still in Production and will air in the UK in the Fall.
Forgive me for bragging but we've been to the "Abbey" - or, rather, Highclere Castle, which is its name in real life. Not quite the same, as Highclere is in the South whereas Downton is set in the North of England.

Thanks Malcom. And that's worth bragging about. Now, if only we could go back in time to visit such places.

I don't know how this image were received in 1917; perhaps the presumption were that the audience would imagine themselves as the woman standing. But for me, and I would guess for most Americans now living, the image depicts a disturbing order.
