This image is from an old old art magazine, and is amazing for its cross-pollination of 'fine' art with 'illustrative' art. Benda's work is some of my utter favorite in the history of illustration.
Hi Thom, I can see why you say he combined fine art and illustrative art beautifully. From everything I've seen of his work, the design elements are always there, and the execution is exquisite, from faces to background to fabrics and scenery.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
