To me, the point is that the boy is JUSTIFIABLY proud. He probably learned that life skill from his dad or grandfather. City kids, country kid. This is why standardized tests don't work.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.

Gross! A horrifying "show and tell" for a vegetarian like me! And the boy looks so proud.
And of course that's the whole point, juxtaposing his pride to the others' horror, including our own.
The New Yorker has had a number of macabre cartoons like that one.
